Thought forever lost to the shifting sands, the Desert Fortress map has been rediscovered and is being dusted down for inclusion in the Field Battle roster from February 11. If it’s been a while since you last walked the deserted settlement, check out our short guide below while you wait for the gates to reopen.

Desert Fortress

History

A settlement of poor farmers forced to eke a living from the dusty soil, Desert Fortress has been without a garrison for as long as its citizens have been unable to afford one. However, rather than meekly surrender to any threat that comes sniffing by, the town’s population will often retreat to the redoubt in the centre of the town for as long as it takes for an invader to weary of the constant sandstorms. There’s usually enough food and water to sustain the townsfolk for a day or two, which is more than enough time for those plundering outside to see sense and move on.

Scouting Report

Desert Fortress is a square map dominated by walls and towers that act more to protect the settlement from the elements rather than from invaders. However, despite the walls being of limited tactical benefit, the map is littered with defensive traps, nooks and stockade-like shield structures, especially around the three capture points that dissect the map from north to south. The key to securing Desert Fortress is the central platform on which Capture Point B rests, which also guards the main access channels east and west.

General Tips

  • Capture Point B in the centre of the map is very much the key to winning, thanks to its position, height and defensive structures. It’s worth making it your first priority.
  • If you do opt to focus on the outer capture points (A and C), rally and reinforce your troops using the outer areas rather than through the centre.
  • If you’re feeling brave, deploying forward artillery pieces can be a very effective strategy thanks to the abundance of cover across the map. Just make sure you don’t get overrun when the tide of a battle turns.
