Reginopolis has all the hallmarks of a city under perpetual siege. Its walls are always in a state of reconstruction, ladders from successive assaults ring the city and, to the west, a well-established siege tunnel allows attackers to strike at its heart.

HISTORY

Reginopolis has been the seat of power and the main economic hub in the Anadolou region for centuries. However, many rulers mistook its importance for invulnerability. They allowed its foundations to be undermined and the resolve of its citizens to weaken. If the city were to fall to the baron-kings of Empyros, it could see the balance of power in the world tip towards the northern realms. These are dark times for Anadolou…

SCOUTING REPORT

In keeping with its classical architecture, Reginopolis offers a classic siege layout with a wealth of options for both attackers and defenders.

South of the wall, attackers can hide in the craggy trenches while their siege engines make short work of the fragile defensive walls. They can choose to either march along the tunnel that leads into the heart of the city, or make use of the many siege ladders that prop up almost every sheer surface.

Defenders are also well-armed with options, including looping lanes and numerous resupply zones that reward a flexible, insurgent-like approach to defending the city. Outmanoeuvring and outflanking attackers should be a priority, while luring them into deadly zones of crossfire will provide a baptism of literal fire for anyone meeting Season V’s new units on home soil for the first time.

PLAN OF ATTACK

  • The underground tunnel to the west of the attacker’s starting position is an obvious entry point, but you can be sure defenders will try to halt any progress through it. Expect to be counterattacked in force.
  • The main gate is relatively poorly defended and fragile. However, the attacking side would be wise to advance beyond it quickly. The courtyard behind it is protected by numerous entry points and high walkways from which the other side can keep you pinned down.
  • Arcing around the western outskirts of the city is a popular attack strategy and one that might not attract too much resistance if enemy forces can be tempted to focus on the centre of the map.
  • Try to take as many resupply points as possible to limit the defence’s ability to mount an effective counterattack. The resupply zone east of the enemy HQ can be particularly troublesome - take it out if you can!

DEFENSIVE MEASURES

  • Remember that defending well is often about timing: when to rally around fall-back positions and take any opportunities you have to counter-attack when they are most effective.
  • Use the narrow streets between the open courtyard areas to your advantage, by positioning troops across them, so that they are firing or lined up into the courtyard.
  • The enemy will probably attack swiftly and seem to have an unassailable lead early on in the battle, but there’s no need to panic. The routes the enemy uses to mount an assault can be equally effective when mounting a counter-attack. Use the underground tunnels and fallen wall sections to take back control and panic the enemy into falling back.
